The resin is produced spontaneously from the wounds of its bark and is found in the lowlands of south-east Ethiopia, between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. It is often used to purify environments and to keep away insects and mosquitoes. Its natural properties are used for respiratory tract infections and as an oral antiseptic.
Its fragrance: sweetish, slightly bitter.
Produced in the area of ​​Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, Benzoin was used in ancient times to attract luck and money, so much so that in merchants' shops it was common to keep it near the cash register as a symbol of good luck. The Siam variety is the most prized (compared to Sumatran Benzoin) with a classic amber color tending towards orange and a sharp, almondy scent. These resins are pure, untreated, and the scent they give off, melted over a heat source (charcoal), is the result of different aromatic substances present in each resin.
